Schwab’s advanced trading platforms, called StreetSmart Edge, is available free of charge to qualified Active Trader clients (36 trades or more per year) although less-frequent traders have reported receiving the platform at no cost. Schwab’s StreetSmart Edge rivals TD Ameritrade's flagship trading platform, thinkorswim. StreetSmart Edge and Active Trader Pro are both desktop programs. Each one takes about 10 seconds on a solid state drive to reach the login screen. StreetSmart Edge offers the ability on the login window to choose a paper trading mode instead of live trading. The demo version for Active Trader Pro is a separate program. Usability and Customization. For details about each of the studies available in StreetSmart Edge®, see Chart Studies. Add a study To choose from a list of all available studies, click View All Studies in the Studies panel of the Chart Settings. Use SSPro4 calculation: StreetSmart Edge® uses the modern calculation for Keltner Channels, which uses EMA rather than SMA as the signal line. However, if you want Keltner Channels to continue using SMA as the signal line, check this box. Charles Schwab StreetSmart Edge requirements. To qualify as a Schwab Trading Services customer, traders simply need to keep a $1,000 minimum account balance in their regular brokerage account. Combined with $0 stock trades, this platform will prove to be a real value to many investors.
