Sibelius Ultimate features the Sibelius Professional Sound Library which is a set of high quality sounds to help make your scores sound more realistic. Sibelius Ultimate also features the 'espressivo 2.0 playback engine' which further helps this and 'Live Tempo' which allows you to conduct the playback using a key on your computer keyboard. You can choose the Garritan libraries as Preferred Sounds, Sound Sets and Effects by selecting the appropriate tab and selecting those devices. (For questions on obtaining sound sets, please visit the Sibelius website.) Click Close and Save the changes. You should now hear playback through the ARIA Player.

Hi,
I just acquired Sibelius 8. I had previously Sib6. When downloading Sibelius, I am allowed to download Sibelius, Sibelius Sounds and Sibelius Sound Update.
But then in the installation guide, it is said that I can install Sibelius Sound by using the Sibelius Sound Installer. This is not clear for me. Is it a separate piece of software or does it come with Sibelius Sound.dmg. I tried to install it from that dmg and it did not work.
Any suggestions or comments will be most welcome.

The 'Sibelius Sounds' sample library is a separate download and installation to Sibelius, the application itself.
The 'Sibelius Sounds Update' is of no use to you, because you do not have an earlier installation of 'Sibelius Sounds' to update.
You need to download and install 'Sibelius Sounds'.

Yes Bruno, you need to download and install 'Sibelius Sounds'.
Using your email address, kindly log into your Avid Products and Subscriptions page: https://www.avid.com/subscriptions
Click on the purple bar where it says 'Sibelius'
Click on where it says 'Show' (next to 'Product Details and Download Links') to see your installers.
You should see your Sounds installers --
Sibelius Sounds 7.5 (Mac) 23.37 GB OR
Sibelius Sounds 7.5 (Win) 23.23 GB
You may now click on the appropriate installer to download it.
Those links are around 24GB, which definitely would take some time depending on the speed of your internet connection. In order to ensure a more reliable connection for download and diminish the room for error, you may want to consider using Ethernet Cable instead of WiFi to eliminate 'dropouts'. Also, please configure your computer NOT to sleep to avoid interrupting the download.

I am also having trouble. Sound file will not completely download for Sib 8.
I have connected with Ethernet cable - the most I have gotten is 50% and it will NOT start over from that point - it always starts over.
I saw on another Avid page (for 7.5 Sib ) an Avid Download manager?

Configure your computer's power options never to go to sleep or standby. If it is a Mac, use Caffeine.
If you are still unable to download, you could consider purchasing the product backup-disks on DVD-ROMs:

There is no getting round it - 23GB is a huge download. You must make your machine doesn't go to sleep and also, I would also turn off your antivirus while you are doing it.

I'm astonished that:
1 - I am unable to export my compositions without getting a ridiculously sized 23 gig download
2 - There is no utility to aid this download. This is the largest download I have EVER seen. I left my computer downloading it for over 10 hours, then my child shut my computer down not knowing it was downloading in the background. Now I have to start again?

It would not matter which library you have, there is still a large 'database' of the the sound playback files. EWQLSO, for example comes on nearly 30 DVDs. This would take forever to download.
I would actually be tempted to buy NotePerformer from Wallander Instruments. A much smaller download, but an excellent sound library.
Of course, if you are happy with crappy MIDI sounds you can use an external audio recorder to record that.

I've finished my download and my install, but can't figure out how to get them to work with sibelius. Any insight?

Assuming that the sample library installation was successful, you just select 'Sibelius 7 Sounds' as your Playback Configuration, and it will automatically work.

After reinstall of Sibelius due to win10 reinstall, I want to import the Sibelius sound set ALREADY downloaded (very painstakingly slow download). How do I tell Sibelius that the soundset is on an externally connected HDD?
Is it as I suspect, that the +15hour download must be done again?

The best strategy is always to retain copies of downloaded installers: you never know when you might need them again. External memory (e.g. USB sticks) is cheap, so take advantage of it.
The installer not only installs the sample library, it also sets a Windows Registry key to advise Sibelius where to find the installed files.
If you did not keep a safe copy of the downloaded installer, then you have two choices:
either (a) download it again, and repeat the installation, just to get the registry key set;
or (b) create and set the registry key yourself, by:
1. Ensure that Sibelius has been fully closed, and is not even in the background;
2. Right-click the Start button and select either 'Command Prompt (Admin)' or 'Windows PowerShell (Admin)';
3. At the command prompt, type PRECISELY (you might want to copy-and-paste):
reg add 'HKLMSOFTWAREAvidSibelius SoundsSibelius 7 SoundsContentPath' /ve /d 'H:somepathsomedir'
EXCEPT that you should replace H:somepathsomedir with the path to the folder containing your Sibelius 7 Sounds library on your external disk, surrounded by double-quotes as shown. This folder should be the one containing sub-folders 'Brass', 'Guitar' etc.
The next time Sibelius is launched, it will check that the sample library is where you said in the registry key.

Hi all,
I bought a 64G USB (thumb drive)and formatted it to NTFS.
It only took 15 min to download as a 'save as' to my external drive. I am using WIN 10 so it sees my drive. Not sure about earlier versions.
Frustrating isn't it!
