Copy Imovie Library To New

  • When at the iMovie window, go to the 'file' icon and click for the dropdown options to show up. One of the options will be 'open library' and placing your cursor there will reveal other options to click 'new'. The new library should be given a name of your liking after which you can navigate through the drop down button to search for your drive.
  • To copy or move an iMovie project to a hard drive: Connect an external hard drive to your Mac. An icon for the hard disk appears in the Event Library. If your hard drive has a yellow exclamation point, it is formatted for Windows and you'll need to reformat it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
  • Select the new library you created. The project is now in the new library. In the finder side bar open your movies window on both computers and drag the library to the second computers movies window. Now open iMovie on the second computer and open the library.

Copy Imovie Library To New Computer Windows

Hi,

So I created a good iMovie library by copying these recent projects from my current, corrupted library into a copy of an older, un-corrupted library. In the rebuilding process, I discovered that in the latest version of iMovie, the File menu items for copying or moving a project from one library to another were always greyed out and non functional. Did you know that you can migrate all of your old photos to new Macs. It is not that hard and you can do it too! All you need is an external hard drive that is bigger than your iPhoto library file size. We will show you how to backup and transfer all of your pictures on your Mac, and how to import your old iPhoto library to the new Photos app.

To transfer or copy a project from Mac #1 to Mac #2 you must create a new library on an external drive (formatted Mac OS Extended, journaled) that is connected to Mac #1, and then copy your project into the new library. You then plug the external drive, usually a USB thumb drive, into Mac #2, where the library and the project in it can be accessed. Mac #2 must have the exact same version and iteration of iMovie as the one in which the project was created.
